Info for Newbies
General Information about the Elements and How to Play
Select a Governor. Each has the ability to commission four types of builders. When you elect a governor, the primary builder is always immediately summoned. Every subsequent builder requires a piece of lumber, which you obtain after every 5th level. Here is a list of the 10 elements and their primary functions:
Human - Cheap towers that take very little time to build
Magic - Offers various special abilities including Stun and Dispel Magic
Fire - Has a focus on splash damage
Ice - Slows enemies down with ice attacks
Thunder - Has the longest range of all towers
Poison - Primary abilities include Slow Poison and Disease Cloud, also focuses on Chaos damage
Death - Has numerous special abilities such as Hex and negative auras
Holy - Buildings are twice as resistant to attackers, gain bonuses against the Undead, and have special defensive abilities
Earth - Very powerful against land units and has a focus on Siege damage
Wind - Has the best anti-air towers and the fastest firing towers
Heroes:
Each element has one Hero that can be trained at its technology building. You can only get one Hero, but their skills can be very useful.

Game Modes
Burbenog Classic: This is the origonal game experience.
Shared Income: 50% of gold earned from kills is collected as usual by the player making the kill, the other 50% is put into a pot which is split between all active players. In older versions of Burbenog Legends the gold was split at the round end however in 2.34 it is now paid out as it is collected making the funds available almost immediately. Assuming all players are active this has the effect of every player earning 62.5% of the gold from thier own kills and 12.5% of the gold that everyone else earns. This helps prevent a dominating player from "running away" with the game which often results in a crushing defeat in the end because this is a team game and starving your teammates is usually a fail strategy. No gold is lost or gained in this system overall, distribution is just more even.
Blitz: Double the round spawns, self explanitory (this includes siege rounds!).
Endless Spawn: In this game mode each level lasts for a fixed time length, the monsters for each corner will start with a burst then continue to spawn continuously accross the round. When the round time expires the monster type that is being spawned changes but existing monsters from the last level still need to be stopped! There is no down time between levels, siege round are disabled.

Commands
Commands:
-sell - Sells all selected units for 50% of their cost. Governors, Technology buildings, Hybrid base structures, and Burbenog Outposts may not be sold.
-give - Transfers money in amounts less than 100 to your allies. The correct usage is "-give xx yy".
xx is the number of the player you are giving the money.
yy is the amount of gold you wish to transfer.
-cede - Transfers control of a tower or group of towers. The correct usage is "-cede xx." Towers that can't be sold can't be ceded either.
xx is the number of the player to whom you are transfering your towers.
-lumber - Use this to give one piece of lumber to an ally. The usage is identical to -cede, "-lumber xx". This is useful if you have more than one piece of lumber but don't want to give it all away.
-off - This command is used to turn off the autocasting of the spells of certain towers, like the Firestorm Caster and the Quake Tower. This works like -sell in that only selected towers are affected. Also, this only affects towers that have spells that are automatically cast with a trigger (but not towers' special trigger effects like the Phase Disruptor) Use this if you would like to manually cast spells.
-on - Use this command to turn back on any towers that were set to off.
-tip - Disables/Enables the tips that appear every other level. There are 40 tips in all.
Secret Coms.
Master List of Secret Commands:
-random - Randomly elects a governor. Only works at the start of a game.

-dusk - Sets the time to dusk (18:00).
-day - Sets the time to dawn (6:00).
-cycle - Initiates the natural day/night cycle (at 2x speed).
A player may change the time of day only once every 20 minutes.
-blood - Changes the outer rivers to flow with red blood instead of water. Type -water to change it back.
-winter - Changes the season to a colder climate
-desert - Changes the season to a warmer climate
-hell - The citizens of burbenog are sucked down into a darker world
-jungle - Plant life overgrows the land
-die villagers - Try this as an alternate ending after you win the game.

Equations
This section contains the equations for the Temple of Death and Phase Disruptor, in case you want to know how effective they really are down the road. There is also a small bit of information about the Gold Mine.
Temple of Death
Chance of Death = (45 - Level)%
So at Level 20, it has a 25% chance of killing the target, and at Level 40, it has a 5% chance.
Phase Disruptor
If Level <= 20
Enemy's life reduced by 50% of its current life.
If Level > 20
Enemy's life reduced by (90 - 2*Level)%
So at Level 20, it reduces the target's life by 50%, and at Level 40, it reduces it by 10%.
Gold Mine
Bonus Gold = 2 * Level
Net Profit* = 2 * (Sum of Levels from current to 39) - 500
LoP = Level of Purchase
LoP Profit (after round 39)
36 -200
31 130
26 410
21 640
16 820
*Assumes that the Gold Mine will not be sold. Including round 40 and sell price, add 330 to the values in the table. You can still make a profit from a gold mine bought at level 36.

The 2.27 expert difficulty hall of fame is so large that it must be split into two quests. Congratulations! Here are the more recent victors:
Adune, Nasren, BlueNewbie, Lord_Spam (7/13/04)
Zilla, Samara[LoN], LoserCraft, Her. (7/14/04)

Shaq, kevin_garnett, and others (8/12/04)
NVP-Kibiz0r, Magi_Charger, The_Quebeker (8/23/04)
Think you should be included in this list but aren't? Several entries had to be disqualified for one reason or another. Playing an unofficial version such as "high bounty", not answering follow-up e-mails, the usage of exploits caused by patch bugs (such as Stinko Man's Acid Vomit perma-stun), and insufficient evidence that victory was achieved fairly all can disqualify an entry. There's also the possibility that I lost an entry or it never made it to my inbox. In those cases, I am sorry.
This will be my last update to the hall of fame. Thanks everyone for participating :)

Version 1.1
Version 1.1 (4/25/03)
Bug Fixes:
Permafrost Maker no longer obliterates your base (oops!)
Magic Vault can now be constructed successfully by players other than Red.
Some other random fixes, mainly dealing with tooltips.
Balance Fixes:
Monster Balance - A few mid-early levels have had their life increased slightly. More importantly, levels 30 and on have had their life decreased, and in some case this decrease was significant.
Increased the damage of the following towers: Holy Hand Grenadier, Magic Dampener, Firebomb Tower, Quake Tower, Blade Guardian.
Increased the range of the following towers: Nova Shocker, Temple of the Faerie Flame, Stormspire, Ziggurat, Temple of Death, Ancient of Wind, Cyclone Caster.
Increased the attack rate of the following towers: Giant Cactus, Needler, Cyclone Caster
Decreased the damage of the following towers: Siege Tank, Sentry Tower, Thunder Cloud Creator
Decreased the attack rate of the Volcanic Fissure.
Lowered the cost of the Altar of Heavens from 270 to 225.
Quake Tower slow effect increased slightly.
Ancient of Wind now has the ability to cast Raging Twister, which hits all land and air units in a line. Its attack still only deals damage to air units, but it will still cast Raging Twister during land levels.

Still, it is the first release, and there are bound to be some problems.
Balancing needs to be done, definitely. If you come across any ideas or suggestions you may have (bugs too) email me at shvegait@hotmail.com
