If you are training Infantry, research Phalanx and Marathon Training.
Modern Tactics
By FearTheEngineer.
Modern Tactics yanks you out of Medieval combat and into a stunning environment of snipers, tanks, battleships, and nukes. If you liked Medieval Generals, you'll love Modern Tactics.
This map is now out: see BludStainDSnipR or FearTheEngineer for more information.
Battleships
Battleships, by FearTheEngineer, is an awesome map based on the classic board game. To get this map, go to www.infoceptor.com.
Masons
Masons are the workers of the medieval battlefield. They can build and repair structures, and can repair Ballistas.
Men at Arms
Men at Arms build exceptionally quickly. At the beginning of the game they aren't too great, but when upgraded become powerful.
Research: Veteran Soldiers, Defend, Phalanx, Marathon Training, Iron Forged Swords, Iron Plating
Counters: Cossacks, Field Artillery, Ballistas
Cossacks
Cossacks destroy infantry units. If you are being harassed by Men at Arms, Cossacks are the thing to train.
Research: Veteran Soldiers, Phalanx, Marathon Training, Iron Forged Swords, Iron Plating
Counters: Archers, Field Artillery, Ballistas, Knights
Pikemen
Pikemen are an anti-cavalry infantry unit. They counter Knights and Tarkans.
Research: Veteran Soldiers, Phalanx, Marathon Training, Iron Forged Swords, Iron Plating
Counters: Cossacks, Archers, Men at Arms
Archers
Archers are the mainstay ranged unit. Archers tend to be vulnerable when exposed, but deadly at night and when they are behind something. Many players like building Archers, including BludStainDSnipR in large games.
Research: Experienced Archers, Ambush, Nimble Fingers, Marathon Training, Aerodynamic Projectiles, Piercing Arrows, Archer Armor
Counters: Tarkans, Men at Arms (with Defend), Knights, Field Artillery
Javelin Throwers
Javelin Throwers are skilled anti-archer ranged units.
Research: Experienced Archers, Ambush, Nimble Fingers, Marathon Training, Aerodynamic Projectiles, Piercing Arrows, Archer Armor
Counters: Knights, Men at Arms
Cavalry Archers
Cavalry Archers are the ultimate raiding unit. They destroy slow-moving enemies effectively.
Research: Experienced Archers, Piercing Projectiles, Archer Armor, Nimble Fingers, Aerodynamic Projectiles
Counters: Tarkans, Knights
Knights
An all-around great unit. While they train slowly, Knights are powerful and quick. They counter just about anything when used correctly, and their only weakness is their slow build time. Personal favorite of BludStainDSnipR.
Research: Charge, Veteran Soldiers, Iron Plating, Iron Forged Swords
Counters: Men at Arms (with lots of upgrades), sheer numbers
Tarkans
Tarkans are the ultimate anti-archer. They also excel against siege units.
Research: Charge, Veteran Soldiers, Iron Plating, Iron Forged Swords
Counters: Knights, Men at Arms
Monks
Monks are the clergy of the battlefield. Monks are the only source of healing for basic units. Monks cannot attack.
Research: Marathon Training, build the tech tree up to a King's Palace (War Academy, Forge, Lumber Mill).
Counters: Just about anything slaughters a Monk.
Ballistas
Ballistas are a meium-range siege unit. Somewhat obselete, but useful if used correctly.
Research: Aerodynamic Projectiles, Piercing Arrows
Battering Rams
Battering Rams are a useful siege unit. Although they have a melee attack, Battering Rams have more hit points and armor than other varieties of siege weapons. In addition, Battering Rams have the unique ability to transport friendly units, making them a perfect way to set up sneak attacks.
Field Artillery
Field Artillery wins the Most Annoying Unit award. Artillery decimates your enemies at long range, but decimates your allies who are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Field Artillery takes a long time to build and can be killed in one hit by any unit. Nonetheless, Field Artillery remains a favorite of noobs and experts alike.
Research: Reload Practice, Incendiary Shells
Counters: Tarkans, Ballistas, Knights, Archers (with Experienced Archers and Marathon Training)
Longbows
Longbows are the assassains of the battlefield. Skillfully slaying enemies while remaining unhurt, Longbows can be deadly when used correctly.
Research: Spy, Stalk, Poisoned Arrows, Piercing Arrows, Archer Armor
Champions
Champions are the most powerful unit available. When upgraded, Champions are almost invincible and can pack a devastating punch. Obtaining 5 or more Chamions will almost always end the game in your favor.
Research: Steel Armor, Backswing, Spiked Armor, Iron Plating, Iron Forged Swords
Legionnaires
Legionnaires are the leviathan of the medieval system. Although they move slowly, Legionnaires can do an incredible amount of damage to enemy units. Also, unlike Longbows and Chamions, Legionnaires have all of their special skills ready to use the second they are trained.
Research: Iron Forged Swords, Iron Plating
