How to Play
There are a bunch of monsters out there in the wilderness who want what you got. Namely that great big rune gateway in the center there. Three Seals must be destroyed each round before the Core can be attacked. It can moderately defend itself (except in Hell difficulty), but soon it will be under seige by some nasty mothers.
So you're gonna have to defend it. Runes can be summoned for defense. When not under siege, the Gateway Core has the energy to summon at least 6 runes through the Rune Maker. From these, one must be manifested before we come under attack again. Otherwise, the Rune Summoning Ritual will be disrupted, and all but the highest level rune of the batch will all be recalled.
With each battle, the Gateway Core will become more adept at summoning better runes to aid us. This can be augmented by using the Rune Maker to invest in Delve For Runes Of Greater Rarity.
When Runes are summoned, the ground beneath them is punched up, blocking all those who approach by foot. This can be used to our advantage by enabling us to create elaborate detours, or to simply barricade against the attacks.
Remember to take note of attack types versus armour types. Attacks types can be extremely effective against the right armour, and likewise can be ineffective against the wrong armour.
Runes and Socketing
Every rune has the Socket Rune ability. This can be used to socket our manifested runes into Socketed Towers, which can be built from the Rune Maker's build menu.
Every rune has information about itself in the lower left of the command menu. In some cases, a rune uses mana to cast or activate abilities. These abilities are highlighted green.
When a rune is socketed, it bestows the tower with an effect. Rune effects listed in red are enabled when the rune is socketed.
When runes are socketed into a Socketed Tower in a particular order, it will spell a powerul Runeword. In the center of the map, there is an island with 3 stones (War, Corruption, Wisdom) that contain all possible Runeword recipes. The towers do not require the exact number of sockets to create the runewords. Just enough sockets to fit all the required runes.
Example:
To create Malice, build a Socketed Disc and socket an Ith Rune first, El Rune second, and Eth Rune third.
Runewords
All runewords' recipes and effects are listed on the Wisdom, War, and Corruption Stones found on the island in the middle of the map.
Type -runewords to get a listing of what Runewords you can make with your current runes.
Horadric Cube
The Horadric Cube is a very powerful transmuting device. It works by selecting a specific group of items and the Horadric Cube (just as you would normally select a group of units), and using its Transmute ability.
Horadric Cube recipes are listed on the Horadric Stone located on the island in the center of the map.
Example:
To upgrade one of your Socketed Discs to a Socketed Piscina: Select the Horadric Cube, then shift-select a Socketed Disc and one of your Runic Gateway Seals, then use the Horadric Cube's Transmute ability.
-battles
Max number of battles is decided by players voting before the first battle begins. To vote, type -battles ## (30-60, default is 45) and Rune TD will scale depending on the average decided by the votes.
Max number of battles determines Super Boss frequency, Gold looted, strength of monsters per battle.
You can type -battles at any stage during the game to recap on game information.
Thanks
Undrawing's Rune TD: Thank you to Nightcrawler, Cyberbob, Xus, Boofhead, Farmer Joe, Brutus, i.a.noob, Firestorm, pewpew, Electric Zeal, PsyK, and lurkers at nzgames forums. These guys who thoroughly played the beta and provided the feedback necessary to polish this map to its current, polished state.
Rune TD: Thank you to all who checked out the original and gave such kind and positive feedback which inspired me to work on the map further. Especially boofhead, drunkenbunny,
cyaemyeu, gadro, and all the folks at warboards.org for the prompt feedback during the beta which made the whole process very quick.
Diablo icon from loading screen and map preview was drawn by Samwise.
Special nod to my 2 key inspirations for Rune TD: the makers of Diablo 2, and Bryvx's Gem TD. Both of which I have spent many hours playing.
